During my umpteen years doing marketing (engineering) for a living, I usually get to promote such compelling subjects as “hydrocarbon remediation” and “foundation design.” So you might understand if I’m a little jealous that Brian Thornton has written The Book of Bastards, 101 Worst Scoundrels and Scandals from the World of Politics and Power. With a name like that, how can you go wrong? The book should sell itself. At today’s booksigning at the Seattle Mystery Bookshop, Thornton sold out of all the copies on hand, and had to take names of other interested buyers.
I managed to score a copy and I’m happy I did. I’ve just started reading Bastards, and I’ve already learned how to steal land. This reasonably priced book could be the best investment I’ve ever made.
The book itself is about Americans, but there are teaser medieval bastards on Thornton’s blog. Check it out at http://bookofbastards.wordpress.com/
